2017 Flu Vaccine announced by WHO

2017 Seasonal Flu vaccine

Each year the World Health Organisation recommends to the Australian Government the four viral strains to be included in the seasonal flu vaccine according to the data they have collected on flu activity around the world. The WHO recommended one strain change (A/Michigan/45/2015 (H1N1)pdm09-like virus) for the Quadrivalent Flu Vaccine to be used in the Southern Hemisphere in 2017

The 2017 Quadrivalent flu vaccine will contain two strains of Influenza A and two strains of Influenza B to give broader protection against circulating flu viruses.

 Quadrivalent Flu Vaccine recommended strains for 2017:

  • A/Michigan/45/2015 (H1N1)pdm09-like virus; *CHANGE  from 2016
  • A/Hong Kong/4801/2014 (H3N2)-like virus;
  • B/Brisbane/60/2008 (Victoria Lineage) -like virus.
